Changes in Fall 2005

September 2005

In preparation for the opening of the Bostock Library, some Perkins collections (Public Documents, East Asia, Reference, and Current Periodicals) began to move to shelves in the new Bostock building in mid-September.

12 October 2005

On October 12, the Karl and Mary Ellen von der Heyden Pavilion and the Bostock Library opened to the public, and the first floor of Perkins closed for renovations.

Just after coming through the main entrance of Perkins Library, you'll see the entrance to the Pavilion on your right as you pass through the exhibit gallery. The Pavilion, which will be open 24 hours a day, is a comfortable space for studying and socializing. A new café, operated by the Mad Hatter’s Bake Shop, will open here in November, replacing the old Perk coffee shop.

To reach the new library entrance from the quad in front of Perkins, turn left at the end of the Old Law (Languages) building and follow the walkway into the arched gateway. Bostock can also be approached from the Fitzpatick Center (CIEMAS).

While the first floor of Perkins is being renovated, the only way to reach the basement, sub-basement, and floors 2-4 of Perkins (including microforms, library administrative offices, meeting room 226, University Archives, and Library Human Resources) will be via the Bostock building. Access remains the same for the Gothic Reading Room, the computer labs, the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library, the Political Science department, and other offices and services in the older portion of Perkins.

Beginning on 12 October, services that have been located on the first floor of Perkins (including Reference, Circulation, and Current Periodicals and Newspapers) are available on the first floor of Bostock. Other Library departments that have moved into Bostock are Public Documents (offices on the third floor of Bostock and reference services provided at the main Reference Desk), Interlibrary Loan (offices on the second floor of Bostock), International and Area Studies (offices on the second floor of Bostock), the East Asian Collection and Reading Room (second floor of Bostock), the Center for Instructional Technology and Information Technology Services (offices and computer classrooms in the lower floor 1 of Bostock), and Technical Services (offices in the lower floor 1 of Bostock).
