About Us

Duke University Libraries’ International & Area Studies (IAS) department supports Duke’s global interdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach initiatives. Librarians with specialized language skills and in-depth knowledge of regional cultures and societies manage collections addressing the needs of our researchers, faculty, and students in the humanities and social sciences engaged in the exploration and study of cross-cultural issues ranging from globalization and the arts to environmental policy.  Members of IAS offer a range of services, including….

Research without Borders
Interdisciplinary resources for graduate-level research in one or more area studies, with a particular focus on European, Latin American, East Asian, Slavic and South Asian Studies.

NEW: Search Duke, UNC, NCCU and NCSU catalogs simultaneously

Search TRLN provides a faceted search of the four library catalogs as well as tables of contents and summaries for recent books.  Best for Western language searches, as diacritics are problematic. Can be searched using original scripts.
