German Studies

The library's holdings in this area are focused primarily on 16th to 18th-century printed works on various topics; the Harold Jantz Collection of Baroque literature; Jantz collections of 18th to 20th-century works by and about Germans in America, and works about America published in Germany; Nazi-era printed works.

Representative Collections

The principal collection in this area is the Harold Jantz Collection of German Baroque Literature and German Americana. There is also a large collection of printed books, pamphlets, etc. of and relating to Nazi Germany.

Collection Guides / Finding Aids

A structured search in the Duke online catalog using the key words " harold jantz" limiting location = Special Collections will locate the majority of titles in the Jantz Collections. A similar search using " nazi" as a subject key word will display many of the holdings of the Special Collections Library relating to Nazi Germany.
